Statutory Rape…
Someone please explain to me, why people are sticking up for, and defending Roman Polanski.
If I have this straight…when he was in his early 40’s, he drugged and had unwanted sex with a 13 year old girl. He was arrested and pled guilty. There was some question to the nature of the plea agreement. He then fled the country to avoid sentencing.
Exactly what part of that is defendable?
Are these people Ok with the fact that he raped a child? Are they Ok with the fact that he drugged her first? Are they Ok with the fact the he fled punishment and has made a mockery of the US Justice system? Is it just that he has gotten away with being a fugitive for so long that we should forgive and forget? Is it just that he’s some hot shot movie director? Because we all know that celebrities don’t have to pay for their crimes. Only regular folk do that.
I don’t understand any of this.
It might have something to do with the girl he raped wanting the charges to be dropped. However, Mr. Polanski was sued and payed her an undisclosed amount. Meaning she got a ton, and is set for life. No wonder she wants it to be over. She has nothing left to gain. Except any real form of justice, but who needs justice when undisclosed amounts of money are involved.
To me, it should not matter that he is allegedly a great film maker. It shouldn’t matter that his victim doesn’t care anymore. It shouldn’t matter that he has been hiding for more than 30 years. It shouldn’t matter that he has not been caught raping other children.
What does matter, is that he was caught drugging and raping a child. It matters that he admitted it and pled guilty. It matters that he thinks he is above the law and ran.
No amount of time, money or distance should matter. He raped a child and he needs to pay for that.
Or did we all decide that forcible statutory rape is alright? At least for celebrities.
