Political Affiliation…

Published by madwilliam at 11:25 am under Behavior Edit This

I am surrounded by right wing, religious, republicans. They tend to emphasize the religious part. Most call them selves conservative. After spending time with them I had to look up the definition of “conservative”, because the way they act is far from it, (according to my understanding) to say nothing of the “religion” part.

I have read the Bible. I’ve gone to church. I have kept up with politics around the world, to the point of knowing the highlights of what’s going on where.

It has all brought me to this conclusion:

Jesus, would have been a Socialist!

One Response to “Political Affiliation…”

I just had to comment when I read this article…

Those are real fighting words for a great deal of American ‘Christians’

I would class myself as an evangelical, born again Christian, living in Scotland… I am also intesely politically active - as my today.com blog would indicate… So I feel comfortable in voicing an opinion concerning this post.

You may notice that I put the term christian in inverted commas, there was a very good reason for that. I am aware of the behaviour of many “right wing, religious, republicans.” and I have to say that I find very little of Christ in them. Christians? Are they not mean to try and be like Christ? Hmmm….

Christ never would have backed a political party, and he never excluded anyone who did. His disciples, for example, were made up from the far left (Simon the Zealot) and the far right (Matthew the tax collector). So both socialist and conservatives were welcome - there was no exclusion.

Healing the sick, feeding the hungry, showing compassion on the broken hearted and mercy for the sinner - this is all part of being a Christian, a couple of thousand years later it gets labelled as being socialist, and after the heresey of the ’social gospel’ anything labelled ’social’ becomes a swear word for Christians…

Its sad. Being a Conservative (in political terms) Christian is almost a contradiction in terms as far as I can see…

Would Jesus have been a socialist? Well no, he would never have been a ‘card carrier’ I dont think, but there is more of his life in common with what we consider socialist than what we consider conservative…

Love the article. Love the blog.
